There are two types of gabion basket construction , welded and woven .

Welded gabions are more resistant to corrosion than gabions madeusing the woven materials. welded gabion basket are mainly constructed from galvanized steel and last around 25 years.

High quality gabion basket are available coated with zinc and aluminum finish called galfan or galmac. Galfan or Galmac will prolong the life of metal and keep if free from corrosion, which extends the expectancy to around 55 years. On top of that most gabions are manufacturered with PVC coating (non -visiable)to prolong the lifespan of the materials.

Welded gabion baskets are rigid and keep their shape, while gabion baskets made of woven mesh don't retain their shape thatwell and often become deformed when exposed to the pressure of being filled with rock.
